It's been my pleasure over the years to witness the growth and change of the area, industry and idea of celebrity. Increasing numbers of people are becoming recognised for their talents, hard work or simple craziness and this brings with it increasing diversity in their attitudes and behaviours. The most interesting and valuable types of celebrity are those who push against social norms, who refuse to conform and who present themselves as they truly are.

Mainstream celebrities are now starting to transcend sexual barriers. They're doing things that are shocking in the moment and forcing us to re-evaluate our thoughts on acceptability. So, with all that said, it seems a safe bet that celebrities will soon have the choice to license and profit from their own sex robot replicas and take celebrity sexual worship to the next level. This will allow us to move from fantasy to reality, from masturbating over pics and videos towards actually having sex with their form. As the AI develops, we'll move from having sex with just their form to having sex with their persona too - in a sense almost having sex with the celebrity themselves. Since starting the company, we'd always thought there'd be a point when celebrity sex dolls and robots would be a natural evolution of the industry. However, as of today (May 2019), I don't think we've actually had such a request. One or two in passing conversation perhaps but nothing that stuck out as being serious. Our TPE dolls from WM, YL and OR Dolls all come with M16 bolt sockets. On the head it can be found on the underside (where the neck would go) and on the body it is found at the top of the neck. An M16 bolt is a standardised bolt with a 2mm pitch (the distance in between the threads/lines on the bold) and a diameter of 0.6299 inches. The great thing about them being standardised is that it's easier to replace the bolts or invent something new if you want - like an adaptor for another body.

Previously the head and body were attached to each other by a standard 1.5 inch M16 threaded bar (like a bolt with the head cut off). To attach the head to the body, you simply screwed the bar into the head and then screwed the head onto the neck.

However, in early 2019 the factory introduced a new system, that was half M16 threaded bar and half unthreaded bar, with a ball bearing on one side. This allowed the bolt to be screwed into the head and then simply pushed into the neck of the body.

Once or twice a week we get an email from a customer asking for a specific set of characteristics on a doll. This can be anything from a rough height range, bust size and skin colour to a full list of exact requirements. In this case, I tell them to visit the doll pages and use the filters to narrow down the options and then select the one you want.

Occasionally we'll get requests such as blue skin, wrinkled skin, cellulite or a giant ass. On other occasions a customer will say that one of our dolls is absolutely perfect if we could only chop the arms off or if the vagina lips were larger. Now some of this may be possible and some of it may not but you're going to have to go down the custom route for this and that involves a lot of extra expense - so first ask if you could afford a regular doll, because if you couldn't then you couldn't afford a custom one. The short of things is that, at present, each doll head and body have their own mould. This is a casing into which hot TPE is injected and allowed to cool. As such the doll comes out, how it comes out. They're not hand crafted, nor 3D printed. So it's not possible to change any of the features at this level. Some of you might say, that there are some doll bodies available with different breast sizes but that's because there are multiple moulds for each of those. This might happen if a particular body is popular and the designers think the same body with different breasts would be a good idea.

Back in the old days, life was simple. You went to school, you got a job for life, you got married and you had kids. That generally meant you were guaranteed to have sex before you were 18. These days though, life is different: we don't settle down as early, we're more self involved with social media and we don't drink as much alcohol. Central heating is available whereby the doll can be plugged into the mains and brought up to a realistic body temperature. Dolls can also easily be heated with electric blankets.

Around 2017 we saw the early dawnings, or more accurately, the precursor to the sex doll movement. This involved the heads being able to, very crudely, talk but having an MP3 player built into the head. There may even come a point when sex robots become indistinguishable from humans - both in looks and actions. This may even move into tranhumanism, whereby humans merge or transport their consciousness into them.

The Threat Of Sex Dolls

This is more commonly seen as the threat of sex robots but this is where they started and the argument is still relevant.

The fact is that many men are now having a sex doll instead of a girlfriend or wife. So it could be argued that they are a threat to institute of marriage or society itself. If relationships break down then something else may emerge. Examples of this may be that women only cluster to certain men for pregnancy or not at all. Dolls aren't indestructible yet and we've actually got to treat them with a little care and respect. There are a number of companies and websites that deal with used dolls and many people will actually buy them as the price can be substantially lower than that of a new doll.

Due to their size and appearance however, they're a little bit more tricky to dispose of. They can be taken to local tips though this can cause a slight amount of embarrassment when the workers ask what's inside. Sex dolls per se are legal in the UK, most of Europe, the US, Canada, Australia etc. However, there are a couple of legal issues around the topic of sex dolls. The first, and most notable, being centred on the perceived “age” of the doll and whether small ones can be deemed representative of children. The second revolving around the renting out of Sex Dolls or, as the media, has labelled it sex doll brothels.

Doll Age: The Current Legal Position

United Kingdom (UK): The legislation that currently deals with this is the Customs Consolidation Act 1876 and the specific offence revolves importation, rather than ownership. Although its scope can and does cover child sex dolls it was unlikely that its authors had such items in mind and so there is a lack of specific detail regarding this subject. Guidance was released in October 2015 to help with its interpretation with relation to child sex dolls and further guidance was released in March 2019. With specific legislation being expected in the near future.

The first bit of guidance in October 2015 talked about the importation of such a doll and stated it was on offence under the Customs Consolidation Act 1876 and also discussed the matter of publishing pictures of such dolls.

The March 2019 guidance went into further detail on these matters, most notably stating that any doll that has any child like features may be considered and obscene article under the act. This would, for example, cover a tall doll with a child like face or a small doll with adult proportions. This guidance also went on to suggest that shipping such a doll around the UK would be an offence contrary to section 85(3)(b) Postal Services Act 2000. This is a newly proposed offence in relation to child Sex Dolls and demonstrates a further and welcome tightening of the laws and movement around such dolls.

It does not currently appear to be illegal to own such a doll but this would be the final part of the puzzle and most likely be something the authorities were working hard on either establishing an existing offence, or creating a new one.

Prior to the March 2019 guidance, the unofficial position, confirmed by the authorities, was that to be legal a doll must be 140cm or over. Below this it may be deemed to represent a child. It is illegal to have sex with a child (or person who is under the age of 16) and illegal to publish photographs of anyone under the age of 18 in an intimate or sexual way. These laws can be considered applicable to dolls representative of those ages. However with the release of the new guidance we think that even 140cm and up may not by itself be a safe bet.

Europe: the UK is leading the way on this topic so again no firm legislation or guidance is yet in place in the European countries. However demand for small dolls is definitely at an all time low so the unofficial actions are definitely having their effect. It is likely that European countries will follow up with legislation once the UK releases theirs.

Update 29 September: Norwegian Courts have ruled that the importation of a 100cm doll is an offence under section 311 of the criminal code, which bans importation of depictions which sexualise children.

The USA: For a long time the USA seemed to show little concern over child Sex Dolls. However, a recent spate of arrests and prosecutions has shown that the tide is changing on this and recently a Florida bill passed making it a first-degree misdemeanor in the state to possess, give away, advertise, sell or display the dolls, which would be punishable by up to one year in jail and a $1000.00 fine. A second offense would be classed as a third-degree felony punishable by up to five years in prison. Though America being a number of states with different laws, it's unlikely this will be a uniform position in all states and the main retailers in the US are still selling child like sex dolls. Note that the US House did pass a similar law about a year ago, which became known as the Creeper Act but this was stalled in the Senate.

Australia: The Ozzies seem to be a bit more strict on this and are following closely behind the UK on this.

Doll Age: The Legal Position Of The Future

As discussed previously, the UK authorities are looking to release more specific legislation that will give clearer guidance and deal with the issue of child sex dolls. It is not known, at this time, when that will be released. As well as dealing with importation, it is likely that it will also handle the issue of ownership. It is likely that the rest of the world will follow the example of the UK at varying speeds.

Doll Age: The Argument For And Against

Many people including some major charities have argued that child sex dolls may be beneficial to people with paedophilic tendencies. Especially if they were to be used in a controlled environment with psychiatric help.

However, this will most certainly be rejected by the UK authorities as they believe it is more likely a gateway product and could desensitise the matter in the users mind. This stance was also agreed upon by Democratic state Sen. Lauren Book who was responsible for introducing the legislation to Florida and she said “Just as viewing child pornography lowers the inhibitions of child predators, so do these childlike sex dolls that have no place in the state of Florida.”

Other people have argued that the lower weight of a smaller doll makes them easier to move around and the smaller size makes them easier to conceal. Again this argument is unlikely to be accepted as torso dolls are available (without legs and/or arms) which solve both of these problems and foam dolls (very light) are available which solve the first problem.

Note that some Chinese websites, pretending to be UK companies, are advising that small sex dolls are legal. Customs are actively seizing these and prosecuting the UK individual and there are no penalties for the Chinese supplier.

Sex Doll Brothels

With the cost of high end Sex Dolls being, sometimes, in the thousands of pounds or dollars, many entrepreneurial people have offered a rental service in once capacity or another. There have been many, widely publicised cases of this around the world and each countries response has been different. Some countries have allowed it, whilst others have fought vehemently against it.

In the UK, Lovedoll UK were labelled as the first UK sex doll brothel when they launched a try before you buy service. This, however, was quickly shut down by the local authority, as it was deemed to be a sex establishment that required a license from the council. As a license was not expected to be granted, an application was not made and this side of the business went no further. A couple of other small players tried a similar thing and were met by similar hostility from their local authorities. The police, it seems, would not have a problem with such an activity as no laws are being broken.

In Europe there is a mixed position but on the whole it seems that a properly run establishment is acceptable, although some public opposition is still apparent. Spain for example seems to be a particularly open environment for this.

In the US, there have been similar cases to the UK and opposition from local council seems to be just as fierce.

In Russia, it seems that this is also acceptable.

At one time, such a question would have been unheard of and yet today more and more men are asking themselves that very thing. OK, they're not saying to themselves "Well Bob, do you think we should get a sex doll?" but they are looking at sex doll sites. At the time of writing this article we get about a 1000 unique visitors a day. About 80% of those would be first time visitors who are male and live in the uk. So that's around 800 different men think about buying a sex doll every day in Britain (and that's if you ignore the other websites who also sell dolls).

Some men take a quick look and decide it's not for them. Others want one but never take the plunge, instead dreaming about one for years and repeatedly coming back to our site. Others, those brave few, actually go on to buy a doll and sometimes their life changes and sometimes it doesn't. So let's take a look at some of the things that help or stop people from buying a doll and some of the things that they like or dislike after they do.

Dolls aren't just for sex and some people don't even have sex with their dolls - not even once. Although many people will say they haven't had sex with their doll when the time comes to sell it most of them have. It's something we found out very early on in this business.

I remember the time one of our warehouse guys was inspecting a used doll that a customer had sold back to us because he said he was unable to use it. So Andrew (not his real name) winches the doll up and begins to inspect it and then makes the fatal mistake of standing under the doll, whilst looking up and opening the legs. I'm guessing I don't have to tell you what happened but I will in case you're having a slow day. The customer had used it, multiple times by the looks of things and hadn't bothered to clean it before shipping to us. Con: Cleanup

Most of the time a woman will clean herself after sex and if she doesn't then at least you don't have to. However with a doll you've got to do the cleaning. If you ejaculate into a doll (which most people do) then you've got to clean it because otherwise the semen will fester and bacteria will build which then becomes unhygienic to use again until you clean it and can potentially develop mold if you leave it too long without cleaning. Once you get it into your head that you have to do it then the actual cleanup process itself isn't too bad and there are a number of tools and products you can get to help. For example the dolls are generally waterproof, so you can use a douche/water sprayer to squirt water into the offices and clean them out and then you can dry them with a small towel or simply leave the legs open a little and let them air dry.

Con: Damage

The dolls today are made of soft plastic so that they feel good. Some of them are harder and some of them are softer. Silicone dolls are generally harder as it's a denser material than TPE and as such stands up to damage a little more. TPE dolls will vary in quality from manufacturer to manufacturer but generally they're a little softer and nicer to touch than silicone dolls but this means they're easier to damage. So the skin can tear if you don't take good care of them. This can be repaired with TPE glue or by melting the doll (advanced) but it often causes a lot of heartache to the customer when this happens.

Con: Maintenance

Generally a woman will clean herself and look after her body. A doll, at the moment, cannot do this and so you'll need to accept this responsibility. Now this can be a pro or a con as it's a nice routine and teaches you to look after something but it's definitely extra work. You'll need to periodically wash the doll with soap and water, apply lubricating oil and apply softening powder to keep it in tip top condition.

Con: The Temperature

A person is generally also able to maintain a warm body temperature, whereas a doll (as standard) cannot. TPE generally maintains the same temperature as the room it's in, so at room temperature (say 21 degrees Celsius) a doll actually feels a little cold to the touch. This is because solid material feels colder than air at the same temperature. This can be dealt with in a number of ways: 1) you can ignore it (it's not that cold), 2) you can keep your doll under the covers (this will make it a bit more bearable), 3) you can use an external heating source such as a heating blanket (this is the most popular method), 4) it is possible to get plugin electric heating inside your doll but this little improvement is not one that seems to have taken off or be at all popular in the industry - this may be due to the fact that you're plugging your doll into an electrical socket, or that there were some early stories of dolls melting or that it's simply too much hassle.
